Smrita Swarup is a contemporary artist and enjoys experimenting with colours to visually portray her thoughts.
She grew up in Basti, a small town in India, where she spent her childhood tending to the flowers in her garden. It is the bright colours of the flowers that remained with her and showed her the impact colours can have in conveying emotion. Her first ever artwork was a drawing of these very flowers!
She pursued her studies in Maths and Science and finished her Masters in Teaching Mathematics from University Of Havard. But her passion for painting still strived her to pursue her studies in Fine Arts from Nanyang Academy Of Fine Arts, Singapore. Since graduating, she has primarily worked in the medium of oil and acrylic. However, she also has a unique love for batik paintings, enjoying using canting to let the vibrant colours flow on to her canvas. Along with batik, she enjoys working in impasto. These two mediums, with their vastly different techniques challenge her to bring a new perspective when creating these artworks, so that she may use the techniques to their full advantage.
Along with displaying her artwork at local and international exhibitions, Smrita makes paintings for interior decoration and displays her work at her own art gallery located in Singapore.
